Looks like they were cut from a manga which would be quite tricky to do well. Nice job. 
Might work in a B&W or monotone piece.

This took ages and it still sucks, would have been much better if I didn't have to do it with my mouse but unfortunately I did
You might have to refresh it for the slightly cleaned up version as the original showed up some horrible bits on the dark BG here.
