New Laptop, suggestions

Alright then, I need a new laptop for uni and to be honest I'm not sure where to start.

So if people don't mind then I'd like you to list a few laptops that are decent these days.

I'll be buying one tomorrow. No time to waste.

I'd always recommend buying online really. Dunno if that's an option if you need it tomorrow but anyway, sites I'd always recommend are dabs.com, ebuyer.co.uk, amazon.co.uk and, if you fancy a sweet custom built one, pcspecialist.co.uk.

Might look out a few specific deals for you later.

It really depends on what you're gonna use it for and how much money you have.

Since I sold my soul to Apple, I'm gonna start suggesting a MacBook Pro.
They're expensive (starting at $2000), though, so I guess you're not gonna go with that.
Then there's MacBook, which is ofc smaller and not as good as MacBook Pro. Still you don't get so much for your money.
It also depends on whether you're gonna be making pics, videoes and such on it. For that, Mac is better.

If you want a good PC laptop you should buy an Acer. We've got 3 Acer PC's in my house and they all work fine.
Unless you are bound too, I'd avoid getting Vista on it, XP is much better imo.

If you need a laptop for uni you don't need anything that much, but be careful with the type of screen - have in mind that for assigments and stuff you'll be looking at texts pretty often and it can hurt on times.

You'll also need spare 20GB ( min ) for uni stuff ( That much cuz all your lectures and stuff will be on it + eventually additional software ).

But you don't need anyhting expencive ( robbing students = common practice ) or too high-tech and stuff.

Yeah but what if he is a gamer and sig maker? Then you probably need something with a good graphics card. And if you like music alot then get a good soundcard. But it all comes down to how much you want to spend. How much is that?

If he is a gamer and GFXer better get one's PC.

Athian, you are an English, starting October at uni = somewhere here ( England ), so you can grab your PC with you.

If you so insist on a laptop - get some idea about the prices and stuff

I'm pretty pleased with my Dell - not the fastest, but still pretty fast, decent graphics and sound card ( don't need better ones ). true it's with Vista damn contract... but still.

Yeah I'd say dell would be an ok choice, I've had pretty good experience with all my dells. Although there was one desktop that we got about 6 years ago, that pretty much broke down very easily >< (later i found out the model was rated one of the top 10 worst computers ever made by any company). But all the newer ones since then have been much, much better.

edit: found the list http://www.pcworld.com/article/12985..._all_time.html
and to Alhto-there is an apple on the list, and go fuckin figure its price was through the roof.

Seriously...do NOT buy a Dell...they may look like great value but if you go on to any tech forum out there and ask their opinions they'll tell you otherwise, trust me. I had one break down on me (only had it cos it was from my Dads work) just last week. Probably decent enough if you only want it for a year or two I guess.

For Windows Laptops the kinda brands you want are Acer, HP, Sony (if you can afford a Vaio ), maybe Samsung and Toshiba too.

No no no, NEVER buy a Dell. Never. Srsly. My old school had them and there was nothing but problems. They can't handle anything at all.
