this might sound idiotic , but every time i try to do this with simulate pressure, it never does it. Its still just a solid path. I have CS2, and ive tried every pen tutorial, but none of them seem to change it. I have a black background layer, then another layer on top of it with the line. Ive tried stroke path from the anchors, and other points on the line, but nothing seems to work. Any advice on why its not working? thanks.

Same thing happen to me, what I did was I went to the brush properties and on the "Shape Dynamics" put everything on 0% and the first "Control" put "Pen Pressure"

You dont have to put everything in 0%, everything is with the pen pressure.
Also i find this tut not that helpful tbh. You didnt really tell how to use the anchors and what nots in the pen tool. But if your just going for casual strokes, then this is good for you.

put the first and second option in the brush menu at 1% instead of 0% to get the stimulated pressure.
