Official FAQs - Check Before Asking a Question!

This topic will be updated over time with everything newcomers to Photoshop or the Guild Inn might need to know.

Please check if you're question has been answered in this topic before creating a new one.
Unless it's a really weird question, then you're probably safe.

P.S. You can search this topic quickly by pressing CTRL+F and entering keywords. Might not always work though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. What is a render?

A. A render is an image of an object or character which has been cut from it's original background. They are usually used as the main focus of a sig.

Q. Where can I get renders?

A. Check out our awesome Render Gallery

Or, check www.gamerenders.com for more.

Q. What is a C4D?

A. A C4D is a special "3-Dimensional" render made using the program Cinema 4D. They are used the same way as normal renders except they are usually used in the background rather than as the focus of a sig.

Q. Where can I get C4Ds?

A. Several of our members have kindly posted links to packs of C4Ds in our Renders Section. Have a look around there and you'll find plenty.

Alternatively, a Google Search will probably uncover several thousand other resources

ADDED: 200+ C4D pack here.

What is a Stock?

A. A stock is basically just a picture. It's like the original image that a render is cut from.

Q. What are brushes?

A. Brushes are shapes you can place in your sigs, such as fire, feathers, grass, or stars, there are brushes for everything you can think of really.

Q. Where do I get brushes?

A. Most people download packs of brushes from www.deviantart.com .
Simply search for whatever style of brush you want. For example, search "fire brushes".

Q. What folder do I place brushes in?

A. Place your brush files in
"C://program files/adobe/adobe photoshop [version]/presets/brushes"

You can find "C://" by going to "My Computer".

To find them in photoshop, select the brush tool, click the drop-down arrow in the top left, then the little horizontal arrow, and your new brushes should be in the list.
If they aren't, try selecting "load brush.." and finding the brush manually.

Q. Where can I download new fonts?

A. Try www.dafont.com

Q. Where do I put the font files?

A. Go to Control Panel.

In Windows XP category view: go to Appearance and Themes then Fonts on the left.

In Classic View or older Windows: Go to Fonts.

Just move your font files in there and they'll be available the next time you start Photoshop.

NOTE: I have been informed that for some people, you don't need to restart Photoshop for the fonts to appear.

Q. What font is used for the Guild Inn logo?

A. Dardevil, get it here. NOTE: It is NOT Daredevil, there is no E.

A. These are Gifts and Ribbons, given to them by others or bought for themselves. The gifts are just for fun, but each Ribbon represents a certain cause, such as a medical condition. *NOTE: Feature currently removed.*

Q. Cool, how do I buy them?

A. In the Points Store at the top of the page, using Inn Points.*NOTE: Feature currently removed.*

Q. What are Inn Points? What can I do with them?

A. Inn Points are used to buy Gifts and Ribbons, to enter the Lottery, to place bets in the Bookies section, and to pay for a service from another member.*NOTE: Feature currently removed.*

Q. Cool, how do I get them then?

A. Easy, just posting gets you points! No spamming though, or you'll lose all your points. *NOTE: Feature currently removed.*

You can also win them by playing games in the arcade, playing the lottery, entering SOTW and DSOTW and even stealing from other members!

Q. What size should my sigs be?

A. Most of us use at Guild Inn use 400 x 130. You can use anything up to 400 x 200, and you can have 2 in your sig space at one time, no more.
