Some of your colouring is a bit messy and there's slight white spots or outside of the lines.
Very cool though. Shadows and stuff might be nice :]

For a background, you could make a wood material from scratch. Use a light brown and a dark brown and use Filter>Render>Fibers and mess with the settings a bit. You can liquify parts of it a tad to make it look like it has some knots in the wood. It would look like it's on a table or something. Just a thought that ran through my mind. =]
